Be the person who creates memorable moments

I can’t begin to count the number of times my children have asked me to come and see some project they are working on, some toys they are playing with, some sport they are engaging in, a movie they are watching and I have said, “sorry but I am busy, go away…”

And yes, one of the occupational hazards of working from home is being at home in the body, but not actually being present for anyone.

And that is where we begin to cross over boundaries and our home-based business becomes a JOB.

One of the biggest challenges for home-based workers is to be extremely anal about staying focussed on work when it is time to work. And being their 100% for your family when you are not.

Hence the scheduler becomes a tool you should put on your A list.

Do schedule in blocks of time when you work. And blocks of time when you are able to be there 100% for your family.
And do NOT compromise unless it involves life and death.

I have come to the conclusion that the very reason why we work from home ie to spend more time with the family, actually becomes a joke when we do not learn the skill of keeping the two completely separate. In fact we could well end up being more of a workaholic than if we just went to a job and came home to be a mummy or daddy full time.

Or the other extreme would be if we spent all of our time focussed on the family and neglect the business.

When we are 100% focussed on the people we care about we can create memorable moments. And these moments are what they will treasure above all else. And it is these moments too, that will help pull us through the dark moments in our entrepreneurial journeys.

And these moments are not just reserved for our family but also for ourselves to indulge in the interests that make us interesting to be with.

So here is my challenge to you. Stay focussed 100% on the task at hand. Enjoy your family and time out 100% as well. Be present and be fully there. Create those memorable moments.
